DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has described tomorrow’s 16th DAP National Congress as crucial, “both internally and externally”, to select a new party leadership line-up, as well as begin the 100-day countdown before the 13th General Election.<\/p>\n

He said, this time around, the selection of the leadership line-up was a record by itself, as 2,576 delegates were eligible to vote in the party’s election.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“This DAP party congress will select the new leadership for the next three years. As such, the congress is important both internally and externally.<\/p>\n

“From the internal aspect, it is the duty of DAP members in a democratic process to choose their leaders,” he told reporters during his working visit to the Penang International Sports Arena (Pisa) here today.<\/p>\n

Lim, who is also Penang chief minister, said there was no restriction on any media covering the two-day congress which would be held at Pisa.<\/p>\n

“We give priority to all main mass media for coverage. But, we hope the reports will be based on truth and facts. We hope the media will give the correct coverage.<\/p>\n

“We are not banning any media…they are allowed to cover. There is no restriction as such. This is open to all,” he said.<\/p>\n
